I’m excited to be getting back to work in this new 45th Parliament. Although the election result was not what we had hoped for, I am returning to work with a much larger number of Conservative colleagues, under the strong leadership of Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre. This minority Parliament will provide us with more opportunities to do substantial committee work, pass important private member’s bills, and advance the priorities and concerns you have sent me to Parliament to defend.
Now that the election is over, we will be publishing this newsletter about my Parliamentary work every two weeks. I will also continue to post updates at The Political Genuis. If you don’t want to miss an update from me, make sure you’re subscribed to both newsletters.
Meeting with Pierre Poilievre
I was in Ottawa last week for our national Conservative caucus meeting and to sit down with our leader Pierre Poilievre. Thanks to the principled sacrifice of Conservative MP Damien Kurek, Mr. Poilievre will be back in Parliament very soon. Our team is united behind him in our commitment to fulfill our critical mandate as the Official Opposition and to continue to build on the gains we made in the last election.
Liberal Attacks on Charitable Organizations
I’ve promised to keep you up to date about Liberal attacks on charitable organizations. Because there will be no budget tabled this spring, we’re going to have to wait a little longer to see what they do next. I explain the situation in this short video update (click here to watch).

Attending Key Events in Ottawa and Toronto
While in Ontario for our National Caucus, I stopped in at the National March for Life in Ottawa, and spoke at the International Christian Voice annual Shahbaz Bhatti Memorial Fundraiser in Toronto. Click here to learn more about Shahbaz Bhatti.

Unfinished Business
As I wrote in my latest column for my local newspapers, there is a lot of unfinished business from the last Parliament. The Liberal Indigenous Procurement Scandal, the unresolved ArriveCan affair, and new questions involving Mark Carney’s conflicts of interest.
Parliament and its committees also need to take on the big policy challenges of our time – tariffs, global conflict, and the unresolved Liberal-caused domestic crises around cost of living, housing, and crime. Parliament has not sat since December, so we’ve got a lot to catch up on.
What’s Next
Parliament resumes on May 26th with the election of a Speaker. The King will then deliver the Speech from the Throne the following day. Before that, I will be officially ‘sworn in’ as a member for the 45th Parliament. We plan to livestream that event on YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter, so make sure you’re following me on those platforms for these and other updates.
Thank you again to the people of my riding, Sherwood Park—Fort Saskatchewan, for re-electing me to represent you in Ottawa once again. I am looking forward to reconnecting with you as we get back to work in the new Parliament
Save the Date! Politics Day Camp
If you’re a parent living in or near my riding, mark your calendar for this year’s Politics Day Camp, scheduled for July 28-30.
This is a fun, interactive way for kids to begin learning about how politics works by trying it out for themselves (using entirely fictional situations). I don’t think there is a better way for kids to learn about the importance of (and the challenge of) politics!
We’re still finalizing some of the details, but if you want to be notified as soon as registration opens, click here to email my office with the subject line “SUMMER CAMP” and we’ll add you to the mailing list.
I always appreciate hearing from Canadians in my riding and across the country. Feel free to email my office at garnett.genuis@parl.gc.ca or share your feedback in the comments below.
All the best,
Garnett Genuis MP
Sherwood Park—Fort Saskatchewan
As parliament has been out for so very long, would you agree that the summer break should be canceled, or at the very least shortened?
You have my Prayers for strength.
It was rough having one Trudeau of the past. But now Canada has to try and EXIST with the late father Pierre of the past, and the three Half Siblings, Justine, Carney and Crista Freeland.
